What is pattern testing? Put simply, testing is the process of working out mistakes, creating pattern clarity and reviewing stitch count before the pattern gets published. I enjoy pattern testing as it is like a “knit-along” with other knitters from around the world. I get to see first-hand other knitters’ color choices and possible modifications, if allowed by the designer. You need attention to detail in order to keep track of your knitting, take good notes, and hopefully spot a few mistakes. I find test knitting very gratifying and satisfying, and the designers appreciate my work.
Below are a few examples of pattern testing I have completed which have been published.
Test Knits for Thea Colman
“Florence is a lovely person and a wonderful knitter with a strong base of knitting knowledge, including proper fit, a huge variety of skills and techniques and knowing the right fiber for each project. She’s been a great test knitter with a eagle eye for seeing inconsistencies in instructions, and her finished knits have been gorgeous, with perfect details and a great fit. I’d highly recommend her as both a teacher and as someone to beautifully finish your knits!” – Thea Colman
Test Knits for Lori Versaci
“As a sample and test knitter, Flo has knit many pieces on my behalf and has always been amazing at clarifying instructions and checking the details that are critical to a well written pattern and, at the same time, produce gorgeous garments. Her ability to understand the mechanics of knitting and make them understandable to others is a gift for any teacher, test knitter, sample knitter or finisher. I couldn’t recommend her more!” – Lori Versaci, VERSACIKNITS
